Zhuang left home during the daytime on June 3, 1989, and he never returned. On June 11, his family found his body at Beijing Tongren Hospital, after seeing photos posted of unidentified bodies. He had been shot in the chest and in one of his arms. After cremation, his ashes were first kept at Babaoshan Cinerary Hall, and are now at Dongsheng Cinerary Hall.
